How to transfer TS Licensing Server to another server

Issue:

You need to transfer your TS Licensing Server from one server to another. 

 

Solution:

This general process involves recording all the information about the current server, installing a new server, then calling Microsoft to deactivate the current server then activate the new server.  More detailed instructions follow.

 

Using Add/Remove programs install the TS Licensing Service on the new server.

 

Using the existing TS Licensing server get the current service license information:

Using the existing TS Licensing server retrieve the current TS License type and quantity

If you have a Select or Volume license agreement they can look the information up for you based on the existing License Server ID.

 

Call Microsoft using the appropriate number for your country.

Select the Terminal Server option

Inform them you want to transfer your TS Licensing server to another server

--you will probably get bounce around

 

Once you get the right person the process will go like this

1)      Deactivate the current server

a.       A confirmation code will be given over the phone.

b.      Disable the TS License Server Service on the current server.

2)      Active the new server

a.       Give the NEW server Product ID and they will return the new License Server ID.

3)      Install the New License packs.
