Changing VMWare Update Manager Patch Repository

Issue:

After you start using VMWare Update Manager you may receive the following warning message in Virtual Center.

 

VMWare Update manager is running out of storage space. Location: {path to files}

 

Cause:

By default the VMWare Update Manager Patch Repository is stored in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMWare\VMWare Update Manager\Data

 

This location can be changed during the installation of VMWare Update Manager.

 

Solution:

1)      Stop the VMWare Update Manager Service

2)      Update the XML file C:\Program Files\VMWare\Infrastructure\Update Manager\vci-integrity.xml to point to a new location.

a.       Update the following entries in the XML file.

                                                               i.      Under <docRootHostUpdates> change the <path> setting to point to the new location

                                                             ii.      Change the <patchstore> setting to point to the new location

3)      Move all the existing patches to this new location

4)      Start the VMware Update Manager Service
