How to image a XenApp or Presentation Server

Information:

Use the following procedure to image (clone) a XenApp or Presentation Server.

1)      Install and Configure Citrix Presentation Server / XenApp Server

a.       Keep this very basic, some applications like virus scanning software may not work after the server is Sysprep’ed.

2)      Remove the server from the Citrix FARM

3)      Remove the server from any Windows Domain (Active Directory / NT 4.0  Domain / etc)

a.       Reboot as needed

4)      Set the Citrix IMA Service to Manual

5)      Shutdown the Server

6)      Image the Server

7)      Deploy the Image to a new server

8)      Sysprep the server to change the Server Name and SID

9)      Edit the MF20.dsn file to include the new server name

a.       Default Location: C:\Program Files\Citrix\Independent Management Architecture

b.      Open the file in Notepad and change the WSID setting to the new server name.

c.       Save the file

10)  Set the Citrix IMA Service to Automatic

11)  Add the server back to the Domain

a.       If using Group Policy, move the new computer object to the proper OU in Active Directory.

12)  Reboot the newly created Citrix Server

a.       The server will be added to the Citrix Farm automatically on reboot via the Citrix IMA service.

 

More Information:

Over time the Local Host Cache (LHC) of the Citrix Database information stored on the imaged server will become out of date.  When this happens you may need to run the following command after the MF20.dsn is configured correctly.

dsmaint recreatelhc

 

Note: The Citrix IMA Service should always be stopped when running this command.
