Issue:

If you liked the Quick Launch bar in Windows XP/2003, then you may be disappointed that Windows 2008 does not provide this by default.

Cause:

Microsoft is attempting replaced Toolbars with the Pinned programs feature.

Microsoft decided not to enable any Toolbars by default, and while the original Quick Launch toolbar file location is still available, the Quick Launch toolbar is not offered by default.

You must manually configure the Quick Launch and/or any other Toolbar you wish to use.  By default only the Address, Links, and Desktop toolbars are available…but not enabled.

Solution:

Use the following steps to enable the Quick Launch tool bar or create any other Toolbar.

1)      Right click some free space in taskbar,

a.       Select Toolbars…New toolbar

2)      Browse to this location

a.       C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

b.      Click Select Folder

3)      Right click the Quick Launch toolbar name

a.       Uncheck the Show Text and Show Title options

4)      Toolbar placement

a.       Windows 2008 will limit placement of toolbars if Large Icons are still enabled.  Do the following to enable placement of the toolbar.

b.      Right click free space in the task bar

                                                               i.      Select Properties

1.      Check Use small icons

2.      Click OK

c.       You can now rearrange your toolbars to the left, right, top or bottom.

5)      To Add Icons to the Quick Launch Toolbar.

a.       Copy any additional shortcuts to the Quick Launch file location.

                                                               i.      C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
